The BMO Nesbitt Burns P.E.I. Marathon weekend is here and will run through Sunday.

The marathon will see over 1,200 participants coming to P.E.I. from all over North America and will even have several international participants taking part in the seven-event categories.

The P.E.I. Potato Industry Kids Spud Run takes place today at 11 a.m. at the CDPEC.

Some of the other events include the Paderno Pasta Supper and the Parks Canada Health and Wellness Expo, and both are being hosted at the Confederation Centre of the Arts which is the marathon weekend headquarters.

Residents and visitors could experience some delays across P.E.I. on Sunday due to the safety and number of participants on the highways.

Please note there will be one-way traffic only from Brackley to Dalvay from 9 a.m. to approximately 10 a.m.
Full road closures will be in effect on the Sherwood Road, between Brackley Point Road and Route #2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on University Avenue, between Kirkwood Avenue and Grafton Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Travellers should also note that Grafton Street, from Queen Street to Church Street, and University Avenue, from Kent to Grafton Street, will be closed from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. to host the finishers and for the safety of all participants.

Spectators are encouraged to come down to the finish line at the corner of University Avenue and Grafton Street to cheer on all participants and to enjoy some great Island bands performing in the Caseley’s entertainment tent from 12:15 p.m. to 3 p.m.
